I’m Samuel Donck, a seasoned Belgian marine biologist, science communicator, and conservation advocate with over a decade of international experience in marine ecosystems, environmental monitoring, and sustainable ocean practices. My career spans coral reef conservation in the Red Sea and the Great Barrier Reef to deep-sea research and cold Arctic waters, reflecting a truly global perspective on marine biodiversity.
A specialist in the design, implementation, and monitoring of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), I combine scientific rigor with on-the-ground field expertise, accumulating over 1,000 dives across some of the world’s most critical marine habitats. My work is defined by a deep commitment to collaboration across disciplines and a passion for connecting science with the wider public.
Beyond fieldwork, I served as an active board member of WeSea, an international non-profit organization dedicated to ocean literacy and environmental education. Through WeSea, we helped bridge the gap between science and society, inspiring action to protect our oceans for future generations.
As an accomplished photographer, I view visual storytelling as a vital conservation tool. My imagery captures the fragile beauty of marine life, aiming to foster awe, awareness, and ultimately, change. For me, photography is not just art—it is a call to preserve the natural world.
